Travel at your own pace

Grieving your loss is a journey – your own unique journey.

There is no ‘right’ way to grieve a loss, there is only your way. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross,  a Swiss and American psychiatrist, introduced the five stages of grief in 1969 in her book On Death and Dying. But each person moves through those stages in their own individual way. It’s helpful to understand that those five steps do not guarantee a linear progression that results in a finite end. Rather, we tend to move through them as if we are riders in a bumper car that is being hit from all sides by emotions, memories, anniversary dates and more that cause us to veer off course from what seems like a carefully designed path.

Although we generally think of grieving a loss in reference to a family member, friend, or animal companion, we can experience the symptoms of grief over any loss we suffer: a job, a marriage, our health, a change in life circumstances, etc. Even when we are anticipating the beginning of a new chapter of our lives, we can be grieving the loss of the chapter we chose to end to initiate the new one.

What to expect during Grieving Your Loss Is a Journey:

I’ll begin the session by helping you understand the five stages of grief and how you might journey through them. We’ll discuss the variety of symptoms you might experience as you move through the process, and how to know if it’s time to seek help if you feel stuck. We’ll also talk about the difference between simple and complex grief. To help you heal your heart, I’ll teach you a simple yoga posture for your hands (mudra) that you can use as you travel your own unique path to healing.

After the discussion:

Once you’ve had time to digest the information and get your questions answered, we’ll move into a Reiki healing circle. As we combine our vibrations to co-create this unique opportunity for healing, Spirit will provide what you need to help you continue your journey in your own unique way.

The vibrations of drums, rattles and singing bowls will enhance the Reiki energies. As the healing reaches all levels – mental, physical, emotional and spiritual – you may experience a whole-body shift that takes your process to a different level from any you could have imagined. Your guides and angels may offer wisdom and guidance as Native American spirits speak to your soul in an intimate language that resonates only with your soul.

The spiritually-guided Reiki energies will find their way to those places where you most need healing. Surrender yourself to this profound and powerful process and accept the gifts that Spirit has for you.

Keep a notebook or journal nearby to record your insights. Come prepared to let Spirit work in the way Spirit knows you most need.

Before you begin the session, you might want to prepare your space so it feels safe and comfortable. Turn off your cell phone and make sure you will not be interrupted during the session so you can have the deepest, most personal experience possible. Have a blanket and some water and perhaps a few tissues nearby.
